Beat the Heat
When the mercury rises, air conditioning can be your biggest expense. But don’t sweat it! With the right mix of cooling, you can save all summer long. If you use an air conditioner, set your thermostat at 78°F or higher. Set it to 85°F when no one is home. Using a programmable or smart thermostat can save between 20 and 60 cents per hour. For room air conditioners, use a timer and save 10 to 20 cents per hour. You’ll save even more if you forego air conditioners altogether and use fans instead.
